FINANCIAL EDUCATION

Money classes that are free, plain-spoken, and open to everyone

Summit teaches budgeting, credit, and borrowing in classrooms, libraries, and break rooms across the region. You do not have to be a member to attend, and nothing we teach is a sales pitch.

Topics

Pick the class that matches where you are

Every course runs 45 to 90 minutes and comes with a workbook you keep.

First Paycheck

For teens and new workers. We read a real pay stub line by line, explain withholding, and set up a first savings split so money moves before it gets spent.

Student Debt, Straight Up

How federal and private loans differ, what happens during the grace period, and how to compare a refinance offer without losing protections you already have.

Credit Scores in 60 Minutes

What the five scoring factors actually weigh, how to pull your reports for free, and which three moves raise a thin file fastest. We bring sample reports to mark up.

Buying a Car Without Regret

Total cost versus monthly payment, why a longer term costs more even at 4.09% APR, and how to walk into a dealership already approved so the finance office has less room.

The Road to a First Home

Down payment myths, what underwriters look at, and the full closing cost list nobody shows you until week three. We work a real budget against a 6.375% fixed payment.

Retirement Math After 50

Catch-up contributions, Social Security timing, and how to size an emergency fund when a paycheck stops. Built for people who started late and want a real plan.

In the community

We teach in 140 schools and community centers

Our education team is on the road most weeks. Last year we ran sessions in 140 partner schools, libraries, shelters, and community centers, plus lunch-hour workshops at employers who asked. There is no charge to the host and no charge to attend.

Taught by Summit staff, not a vendor reading slides
No account opening, no forms, no follow-up sales calls
Materials available in English and Spanish
Classroom sets of workbooks shipped to teachers at no cost

How to book

Four steps to get a session on the calendar

Most requests are scheduled within two weeks.

1

Tell us who is coming

Send the group size, age range, and roughly what people are struggling with. Twelve ninth graders and forty warehouse staff need very different sessions.

2

Pick a topic and a length

Choose any course above, or ask us to combine two. We can fit a 45 minute class period, a 90 minute evening block, or a three-part series.

3

Confirm a date and room

We only need a screen and seats. If you would rather meet online, we run the same sessions by video with the workbook sent ahead as a PDF.

4

We show up and teach

An instructor arrives 20 minutes early with printed workbooks. Afterward you get the slides, a handout of local resources, and a way to ask follow-up questions.

Questions we get from hosts and attendees

Do I have to join Summit to attend a class?

No. Classes are open to anyone in the community and we do not check membership at the door. If you decide later that you want to join, a $5 opening deposit makes you a member and part owner.

Is this a sales presentation with a workbook attached?

It is not. Instructors are told to answer product questions honestly if asked and otherwise stay on the curriculum. We do not collect attendee contact information or pass names to our lending team.

Can I meet with someone one on one instead?

Yes. Free one-hour coaching appointments are available at any of our 42 branches or by video. Bring your pay stubs, a recent credit report, and a list of your debts and we will build a plan in that hour.

What does it cost a school or employer to host?

Nothing. We cover the instructor, the workbooks, and the travel. Hosts provide the room and let people know it is happening.

Do you offer anything for people already behind on payments?

Yes. Ask for a Money Reset appointment. We look at what is actually owed, sort it by consequence, and talk through options including debt consolidation from 10.49% APR if that genuinely helps.

How far will an instructor travel?

Anywhere within our branch footprint, and further for larger groups. If travel is a problem we run the same class by video with no reduction in content.
